Interior & exterior
House Painting in San Francisco
Single rooms through to whole-house exteriors. Most of what separates a paint job that lasts from one that does not happens before any color goes on, and on San Francisco housing that prep is usually the bigger half of the work.

Common interior & exterior painting jobs
In this city, prep is most of the job
Two things make San Francisco hard on paint. Older homes here are wood, not stucco, and wood moves, so an exterior that was not scraped and primed properly will lift within a couple of winters. And on the ocean side, fog and salt strip a finish far faster than they do a few miles inland. We quote the preparation as part of the job rather than as a surprise, because it is the part that decides whether you repaint in three years or in ten.

Common questions
Can you match the existing color?
Usually. Bring us a chip off the wall or a piece of trim and it can be matched at the paint store. On a period exterior with several colors, we will work through the scheme with you before anything is ordered.
Do you paint interiors while we are living there?
Yes, and most of our interior work is done that way. We mask and cover, work room by room where we can, and clean up at the end of each day rather than at the end of the job.
How long does an exterior take?
It depends almost entirely on the condition of what is underneath. A sound exterior is quick; one that needs scraping back, filling and priming is not. That is exactly what the free visit is for. We would rather tell you before than discover it on day three.
Do you charge for an estimate?
No. We come out, look at the actual job, and quote it. That free visit is how we price everything. Pricing a job properly usually means seeing it, which is why we do not give firm numbers over the phone.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. California contractor license #1132115. You can look it up on the CSLB website with that number.
Do you cover my area?
We work across San Francisco, the Peninsula and the East Bay. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call and ask. The answer is usually yes.
