Furnace Repair & Replacement in San Francisco

Heating is what most of this city actually needs, and a furnace almost always fails on the coldest night of the year. We diagnose the fault, tell you plainly whether it is worth repairing, and replace it properly when it is not.

When to call

  • The furnace runs but the house never warms up
  • It short-cycles: on and off every few minutes
  • Banging, screeching or rattling on start-up
  • The pilot or igniter keeps failing
  • Heating bills climbing with no change in use
  • Rooms that used to be warm and no longer are

What the job involves

Repair & service

  • Fault diagnosis
  • Igniter, thermocouple and flame sensor
  • Blower motors and capacitors
  • Thermostat faults and replacement
  • Filters, belts and annual servicing

Replacement

  • Removal of the old unit
  • High-efficiency gas furnaces
  • Heat pump alternatives where they suit
  • Venting and gas connections
  • Sizing to the property, not to the old unit

We will tell you when not to repair it

One of our clients called us out to fix her furnace. We looked at it and recommended replacing it instead. At its age the repair would not have lasted, and she would have paid twice. She wrote about it afterwards. That is the conversation we would rather have before you spend money than after.

Common questions

How do I know if it is worth repairing?

Age and the cost of the part, mostly. A cheap part on a unit with years left is an easy repair. An expensive part on a unit near the end of its life is money spent twice. We give you both numbers and the reasoning.

Which furnace brands do you install?

Lennox and Carrier most often, with Goodman and York where the job or budget suits them better. We size and quote to the property rather than pushing one line.

Do you charge for an estimate?

No. We come out, look at the actual job, and quote it. That free visit is how we price everything. Pricing a job properly usually means seeing it, which is why we do not give firm numbers over the phone.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. California contractor license #1132115. You can look it up on the CSLB website with that number.

Do you cover my area?

We work across San Francisco, the Peninsula and the East Bay. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call and ask. The answer is usually yes.
